  • Who are you? Hello! I'm John Tapsfield - CTO of Urban Hawk Ltd a massive massive realtime engine for simulation of GIS and internal spaces (and data, RF, Teleco and Network access data - and even radar data).

  • What is your industry and profession? Product & Project management, design and one time Drupal Web Development company owner (everything needs more abstraction layers...) - for Urban Hawk it's all about finding the right partners to provide data and the right customers to offer data back into. Our focus is transport but a lot of queries are very similar and we're looking at more hollistic modelling- e.g. beyond the digital twin of a key point of infrastructure to include the externalities and transport and logistics that serve it - since nothing exists in a void (except CAD models and time expired 3D twins).

Where do you plan to use your new Digital Twin Knowledge? Personally/professionally?
For the benefit of the community and develop a network which will allow us to tie together lots of disparate capabilities. Inherently we have a positive sum benefit to seeing a common standard emerge - however we can also be a point of conversion (a neccessity given our product) since not everyone needs the huge 3D or 4D datasets (we do spatial data over time - which gets horrendously large quickly).

In short we want to move the needle along - its' not certain yet if our front end is just a feature or a service - since a lot of the customers we've spoken to like the effects they can render in Unreal or Unity - but the data layer beneath is often just a model *(ie strip away a wall / change something and it's just an empty mesh beneath).

  • Why have you decided to join the DTHub?
The network benefits and to see what the SOTA and what opportunities exist with the Digital Twin Hub and it's membership.

  • Have you participated in any of our meetups, or events?
Not yet, but I am tracking them and hope to attend soon - life and schedules are very busy on all fronts at the moment!

  • Do you have any examples of work that you have done using Digital Twins?
We've pulled in an open street map database of the UK and can instantiate massive chunks of it at the same time - then zoom down to station level. So 50m > 10cm.
It depends on the use case of course - and we've simulated everything from ship wakes - to sense through the wall radars for firefighter tracking. To quote Start Trek - Context is for Kings - and we wish to provide that to our user base.

You can see some of the publicly published work here:

We're open to partnerships, proposals and invitations! Do please get in touch. We're always happy to speak to people in this field.

Thanks and looking forward to hearing more from you all!

    John

Who are you?  Hello, my  name is Mei. I am delighted to be here.I work for a social enterprise, Eluceo, set up to help individuals navigate the complex arena of education/lifelong learning into a fulfilling career. We also have a lifelong career road-mapping app, iShine®, that is developed to enable individuals to respond quickly in a rapidly changing careers landscape due to the emergence of new technology, AI and automation.

My role at Eluceo is director. However, from this September I am also working part-time on a digital twin (DT) research project, at King’s College, London.

What is your industry and profession? I am a systems engineer by profession but also have a strong business analysis background, with over 30 years of experience in major companies covering health, government and defence.

I have a degree in Biomedical Electronics and PhD in medical instrumentation.

Eluceo supports individuals from age 16 and beyond on career and skills development, and companies of all industries on upskilling and re-skilling. We have also started to provide technical consultancy.

Where do you plan to use your new Digital Twin Knowledge? Personally/professionally?

I think we are entering a very interesting time for engineering and technology. The advancement in AI, ML, robotics, IoT, VR, AR together with the emergence of new technologies/implementations such as blockchains, metaverse, web3, DT, etc., is changing the way we live and work. For this reason, personally in order to gain some hands-on experience on DT, I have embarked on a part-time research project at King’s College, London. The project is to research and implement DTs to support modelling of hospital systems.

Professionally I would like to stay with research on DT but also to help Small to Medium Size (SME) organisations with implementing their DT solutions.

In addition, I hope with the knowledge gained from the DT project I can convey my experience and understanding of the career opportunities, the skills associated with DTs to individuals, especially to the students that Eluceo works with.

Why have you decided to join the DTHub?  I think the Hub is an excellent place to learn about DT and to meet people working in similar area. The Hub has extensive resources and the toolkit provides very clear guidance on how to start the DT journey.

Have you participated in any of our meetups, or events? No, but I would like to be an active member of the Hub.

Do you have any examples of work that you have done using Digital Twins? No, as I am at the beginning stage of the DT research project.

Thank you!

Happy New Year!

Who are you? - I'm Francis Heritage, a Royal Navy veteran and Business Development Manager for the Defence arm of Faculty, an Applied AI company based in London.

What is your industry and profession? Faculty Science Ltd (Faculty) is the UK's largest independent AI company (we recently outgrew the 'SME' label!). We provide a full range of data fusion/data science capabilities and provide bespoke AI services across every use case you can think of, including digital models, shadows and twins. We recently launched a new product called 'Frontier', which creates computational twins of complex business processes for the purpose of improving decision making. (faculty.ai/frontier)

Where do you plan to use your new Digital Twin Knowledge? Personally/professionally? Professionally, to better understand DT use-cases and subsequent applications of AI/ML.

Why have you decided to join the DTHub? To find potential partners and clients where our AI/ML experience might help to make a difference; to network; and to increase my own knowledge of an increasingly important field that is rapidly evolving!

Have you participated in any of our meetups, or events? The Defence Digital Twin event in Nov 2022.

Do you have any examples of work that you have done using Digital Twins? We have completed a computational Digital Twin of an NHS trust to improve A&E flow-through, as profiled in The Times in Dec 2022. It allows hospital managers to scenario plan and predict the likely outcome of each patient as they arrive, leading to a more efficient use of bedspace and other assets. We are also applying this product to other Government and non-Government clients. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/ai-cure-for-bed-blocking-can-predict-hospital-stay-fpvjn5ql6

  • Who are you?I'm the CTO of a small company with big ambitions called ELEVEN-I.  We are a sensor data collection, analysis, interpretation and act company aiming to bring structural health monitoring to wind turbine blades. I also have an interest in Digital Twins for nuclear.
  • What is your industry and profession? Primarily wind industry but a lot of nuclear project experience.
  • Where do you plan to use your new Digital Twin Knowledge? Personally/professionally? Our products provide data for digital twins in real time.  We measure various parameters to build a picture of the fatigue accumulation, bending modes, real loads and various other information which can be extracted from the data.
  • Why have you decided to join the DTHub? I think that what we are doing constitutes work in the field of digital twins and am keen to learn more and meet people with a shared interest.  Just defining what constitutes a digital twin is interesting.  It can mean many things.  Key is that a digital model exists in some form which reflects a time based reality. Models inherently have limited accuracy as they are based on measurements with limitations.  The next step for digital twins is to tag measurement confidence to the measurement data.  Understanding the measurement error, accuracy and precision is key to making good use of a twin.
  • Have you participated in any of our meetups, or events? Not yet but I certainly intedend doing so.
  • Do you have any examples of work that you have done using Digital Twins? We worked on a Digital Twin with Cammell Laird and NNL on "Project FAITH" which was  a mock up of a nuclear fuel rod assembly.  All of our current wind products contribute to our digital models of wind turbines.
