The Apollo Protocol Initiative is seeking applications to join its inaugural Executive Board and Steering Group. A new governance structure is being set up to take forward the work of the Apollo Protocol initiative, which is developing a common language for digital twins and information management by facilitating open cross-sector collaboration. Following the publication of its original white paper in 2022 the team has successfully established and tested a methodology for cross-sector collaboration and will shortly publish the outcomes of this work. The new governance structure will take forward the initiative and build on the approach. If you’re keen to further the work of the initiative, either by active individual participation in the Executive Board or as a source of strategic guidance and advice in the Steering Group, please consider applying. Individuals are invited to express interest in the Executive Board and the Steering Group. The Executive Board will be selected by the Interim Board of the Apollo Protocol. It will provide the long-term strategic direction for the Protocol and its enabling mechanisms, overseeing the maintenance and use of its assets. Membership will be by individual representation and meetings will be at least monthly. Positions within the board, such as chair, will be appointed once the executive board group is selected; however please state within your application if you would like to apply for chair stating your reasons. The Steering Group will be non-executive and provide oversight as a group to the Executive Board. It will be selected by the Executive Board and will meet quarterly. Members of the Steering Group will be a representative mix of individuals and organisations who are subject matter experts and other interested parties across data management and the digital twin landscape. Several people have asked us what's happening with the Apollo Protocol Initiative, so here's an update. Following our successful four-month Apollo Forum 'proof of value' exercise with a Forum for the Built Environment and Manufacturing (supported by the Tech sector) the team is in the process of writing up the exercise, which was funded by InnovateUK. The report will be in three parts: The Why: A look at the Apollo Protocol initiative and how it fits into wider Cyber Physical Infrastructure policy. The Methodology: An analysis of the methodology used for an Apollo Forum, how this relates to our operating principles and how to openly use the methodology for any cross-sector Forum. The Analysis: An independent analysis of the outputs and outcomes of the Hacks, the use cases and what we have learned overall. We are hoping to publish this report shortly. In the meantime a new governance structure is being set up to take the initiative forward, and we'll be able to tell you more about that next week. Bola is chairman of the Construction Industry Council (CIC)'s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, serves on the City of London Corporation Strategy Steering Board, is Digital Director at BIM Academy and chair of Moving On Up, an initiative to increase the employment rates of young black men in London, supported by the Mayor of London. In the 2019 New Year’s Honours list, Bola was awarded an OBE for services to Diversity and to Young People in the Construction Industry. Bola is a qualified and experienced chartered QS, with expertise in construction cost management, BIM and digital construction methodologies. He will be leading us through an exercise to explore the challenge of implementing digital twins in a real life construction scenario. We’re delighted to announce that Alex MacLaren, Associate Professor in Architecture at Heriot Watt University, will be joining us at the #ApolloProtocol Circularity Hack in London on 9th February. Alex is Senior Director of Studies (SDOS) for Multi-campus Architectural Engineering at HWU. Her research interests are in built-environment cross-disciplinary collaboration, and training the future industry for the context of the Climate Emergency. She is know for busting silos and breaking down barriers to student innovation, most recently facilitating a 150+ multidisciplinary student team to design, fabricate, disassemble and reassemble a Scottish mass-timber Solar-Powered house in the deserts of Dubai. Alex believes that smart, authentic education and training for students, honing trans-disciplinary communication and social skills, is essential. Alex was Director of Education for Teambuild UK and dotBuiltEnvironment. Most recently she has joined ZERO construct and is enjoying the challenge of effectively implementing the technical evolution of the construction industry, and inspiring future generations. We’re delighted to announce that Dr Graham Herries, Chair of the IET Innovation and Skills Panel will be joining us at the #ApolloProtocol Circularity Hack in London on 9th February. Graham brings us his experience working in #manufacturing, #construction and #tech, as well as a breadth of understanding on the topic of #digitalskills. What is needed to aid the skills gap? How can we think innovatively about the challenges our sectors face? How best to educate ourselves, inspire our colleagues and recruit new talent? Graham is an Engineering Director working in Industry 4.0 technologies and Digital Transformation. Previously Senior Vice President for Engineering at Digital Barriers, Graham led the engineering function and technology direction of the business. He previously worked for Laing O’Rourke providing executive leadership for its ongoing strategic digital transformation. He created and led an EU H2020 funded project delivering innovation through the development of Industry 4.0 technologies for scheduling optimisation across Construction, Manufacturing and Rail, utilising IoT, AI and Digital Twin technologies. Prior to this Graham was the Head of the Software Centre of Excellence at Rolls-Royce, and worked for Thales for 8 years on several naval projects. Hello all @Jonathan Eyre Regarding 1) Smart Meters, I reckon the Data Communications Company ( https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/) may help as the starting point. Data from smart meters must be stored already in the cloud (another aspect if is is private / public etc), otherwise, we could not get invoiced. We just need a read only API to it. @Su Butcher Regarding the 2) We can make it optional if the data is public or private (for the owner to decide). Note we need to consider leaseholders and freeholders. This would be similar to trip advisor / google reviews or CCTV in terms if the owner does not have anything to "hide" then any person may ask "why it is not public?". I reckon at the beginning if the owner tries to sell or rent, then he will have an incentive to share, although eventually, home insurance could be cheaper if it is shared. Regarding existing buildings, the same incentives apply if you want to sell or rent, you can get a survey done or keep maintenance logs. For the public sector we can use regulation, ie demonstrating the building is safe to work or live in. I reckon eventually the main incentive is competition, like BREEAM. WELL, etc if somebody else has it and you do not, then you are losing out in addition to reducing insurance or maintenance costs. Next steps If we could join Chimini + DCC as the starting point, see how the map info to property and space and merge that into a Digital Twin then I reckon we have a valuable application. Without trying to look like a project manager, unless there are not any other proposals for "bare minimum" case studies, would we agree on the next step to have a 60-minute workshop with both of them to define integrations and data structure? Hi everyone, As we are approach our third hack, we wanted to open up for feedback on what everyone has gotten out of being part of the Apollo Protocol events so far as an Apollo Forum? We've had such great support so far, but as an organising committee we are keen to keep moving forward as an initiative and make sure we are listening to everyone's thoughts as well. I've some prompts below but what do you think to the direction so far? What has worked well for the events? What more should we be doing together? Is there anything that could be useful between the events? What do you want to see more of? We've initially explored some of themes, but what would be the next steps for you within the fields of Value and Performance? Are there new themes that you feel we need to explore? Finally, under the current funded activities we are going to produce a summary report to InnovateUK analysing how this framework is working for built-environment and manufacturing as well as how the Apollo Protocol concept can enable other cross-sectoral discussions in a similar way. If anyone has any standout use cases / case studies that would be a step change for either of our sectors to become commonplace, or within adjacent sectors, then please shout about them and reach out. We've had a few surface during the events and some discussions started here on the DTHub, but no doubt there are others to highlight what we need to be doing together as an industrial voice.

Both interesting ideas. The second one, a public cloud storage of design and maintenance documentation is similar to the work that Chimni is doing (and recently completed an InnovateUK funded project on) except that their project is based around the owner being the recipient and manager of asset information following construction and use this for maintenance records etc. This passport/logbook belongs ultimately to the building and remains with it when ownership changes. The difference is that this doesn't allow for any public sharing of the data about all the buildings involved, though it would allow the homeowner to share the data with prospected buyers I imagine. What would be the benefit of a public sharing of this data, and would that override the risks and reluctance of homeowners to share? How might the idea apply to existing buildings, the public rented sector etc.? Hi Will, Thanks for your kind words and I fully agree in the need to get from use cases into the case studies as we have been discussing at previous forum events. With regards to the two use cases you mentioned: This is a really good use case that incentivises a better economy of housing in my opinion. Are you aware of anyone doing this yet or progressing this as a concept? I'll certainly add this to knowledge graph that was being built up at the previous events that will be open sourced shortly. This is synergistic to a few aspects that was mentioned at the last hack in December. There is quite a bit of work being done around housing passports with the home owner having having access to all their information upon purchase rather than "the drawer" that has all the paperwork. Is there anything for this that you had in mind in particular to help capture this? Did anyone else have thoughts on these ideas?

Hello All Impressive work on the apollo protocol use cases. I reckon the next steps would be to develop a high level roadmap for a minimum viable product with its related business case. This would be for the two use cases as main / backup. Based on how our environment has created complex systems from simple particles, ie biology - humans from only 4 genes or the universe from protons, neutrons and electrons; I reckon we need to identify and agree on which two use cases will be the most simple ones that provide maximum simple functionality at a lower cost. Once we agree (perhaps we can vote), and implement a practical solution that works and is used due to its indispensable service, then we can add more relevant functionality / complexity. I see (in my opinion) the two most simple and useful use cases are: Retrieval and visualisation of energy consumption from smart meters (simple API to the different energy providers). Would you buy / rent a property with a monthly £1000 energy bill? This is the incentive Cloud storage and retrieval of any design, and maintenance documentation associated with each property. Like a public Dropbox, each property will have a cloud folder where any information can be uploaded. Incentive; would you buy a house with no record of maintenance or commissioning? These two use cases will increment or decrement real estate value therefore different users will be interested to keep it up to date. Please share your thoughts Thank you Will
