  1.  Research project title

Digital Twin in Enabling Lean Strategic Facility Management.

  1. Invitation

I, Alex Mbabu, a PhD in Built Environments student at the University of Salford, UK, invite you to participate in this research project. The following information explains how you can contribute to the study and makes you aware of your rights as a research participant.

  1. What is the purpose of the research?

This is an exploratory phase of research. The exploratory research investigates the strategy, process, tools, business measures, monitoring and reporting, and service sustainability in digital twins to enable Lean strategic facility management. The exploratory research aims to apply industry-based knowledge to construct a digital twin framework integrating intelligent facility data into strategic business systems, and support functions to generate actions and decisions of strategic value while reducing waste in the operations phase. The research is not limited to a specific built environment sector focus.

  1. Who can participate?

The research welcomes any built environment professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced in strategic facility management, operational facility management or information solutions development. Your knowledge and experience in the focal area will be invaluable in constructing the proposed framework.

  1. What are the possible risks of taking part?

The project proposal has been examined and approved by the University of Salford Research Governance and Ethics Committee and endorsed by the ethics procedures. A copy of the ethical approval is provided to you if you wish. There is no risk or discomfort in participating in this study. Please feel free to participate.

  1. What will happen if you participate?

You will be required to participate in an approximately 1-hour (unless additional time is required upon your agreement) interview arranged at a convenient date and time. Participation will be audio recorded and subsequently transcribed.

Once your participation has been confirmed, you will be emailed the informed consent and an interview outline. You will also be contacted to arrange a suitable interview date and time.

  1. What happens if you have any concerns?

If you have any concerns about the research, do not hesitate to contact any research team member (see below).

  1. Will my participation in this study be treated with confidentiality?

If you agree to participate in this study, we assure you that all your information will be anonymised and securely stored, with access limited to study researchers. All information gathered will be kept confidential.

  1. What will happen to the research project's research results?

The study results will be analysed, developed, and presented as research papers and a doctoral thesis. If you want a copy of any reports from the research, please write to ask to be included in our distribution list.
