February 2023: The Apollo Protocol

Welcome to the second edition of Connected Topics, bringing together fascinating articles, discussions and resources each month on a chosen topic.

These pages are designed to bring together the most useful and relevant digital twin content on a different topic area every month.

February's theme is The Apollo Protocol. Nearing the end of a fascinating and popular series of hack events, the Apollo team have delved deep into some of the most important issues facing the built environment and manufacturing sectors in particular, supported by the technology sector. The aim is to deliver a mechanism for formalising communication between sectors, and bring them together based on building on the work already being done separately.

Having already focused on unifying the value chain, circularity, and optimising performance, the final event looks at managing human capital - in particular, digital skills. Find out more about the initiative on this page, with information about the project's aims, origins, previous events and findings. We also talk to the Apollo Protocol team to hear their thoughts on the project.

The Apollo Protocol is an initiative by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). They published a report in September 2022 arguing for a cross-sectoral framework to unlock the benefits of digital twins between the manufacturing and built environment sectors, with the support of the technology sector. You can read more about the project on the IET website, which is also where you download and read the report.
