What is the metaverse? Digital Twin Fan Club

Will the ethics of digitisation ever catch up to political reality? Is the answer to the meaning of life the universe and everything really 42? How can the built environment interface with virtual worlds? All these questions and more will be addressed in our latest podcast.

Also, we want to know your views on what you would like to hear about next so that we can pretend to listen and then tangent off onto something equally interesting, but totally unrelated half way through.

Fascinating podcast @Henry Fenby-Taylor - thank you for creating and sharing! Amazing contributions from @Ali Nicholl and @Jonathan Eyre as well!

Do you all feel that Facebook's metaverse has the potential to grow in a similar fashion as the internet market place has? E.g. do you see Facebook's metaverse rapidly taking over all other forms of social media/internet meeting places in a few years just as Amazon did over brick and mortar stores?

As an individual with many friends and family living across the pond, I am a big supporter and user of internet meeting places, but I worry that if Facebook's Metaverse gets a hold on the market they could manipulate and essentially devalue all other platforms. Do any of you share similar fears?

I would be very curious to hear your thoughts!

It was a really good chat, it feels like while we're discussing the specifics of what 'counts' as the metaverse, there are real things taking shape. I'm starting to create a list of 'is it metaverse?' checkpoints. Number one for me is, can I share assets across platforms (I don't care if it's an NFT personally, I just want to be able to)

We have been discussing how you get high-performing teams in Project 13 and questioning whether you can do this as effectively virtually as you can in person. There are also graduates starting who are not benefitting from soaking up experience from the people around them. One of the suggestions is that in the future we will use Virtual Reality so maybe the metaverse can bridge the gap - but only if it is set up correctly...
